Anyone know any local 5K's that have walkers as well as runners?  My feet have been (KNOCKWOOD) pretty okay lately, and I've been doing a little more walking than I used to.  I was contemplating trying to do a couch-to-5k with just walking quickly instead of running, and thought it would be nice to try to do a fast-walk 5k as a goal in the spring.

Anyone ever do this or have any ideas?

I know nothing about running... but you should come rock climbing with us!

I don't know about the Boston area, but I think you are totally allowed to walk a race if you want to. My sister has been badgering me to do just that!

My gym friends suggest water aerobics! Not a 5K, but possibly more fun?

Clarification: When I put the above question to a friend of mine who has done 5Ks and also had a recent foot injury, she suggested equivalent cardio work that wouldn't stress the foot -- water aerobics. It's what she did until her foot healed. So! Not what you were looking for, but I thought it might be a helpful option if walking doesn't work / you end up not liking it.

Almost all Somerville races should allow walkers... you might be moved to the sidewalk around 30 minutes in, but... you probably walk faster than some of the runners anyway. But, as long as you have a bib number, you can go to the race parties.

Yeah, this. All the local races have slow folks, it's fine.

Yay! I did the couch-to-5k and I think 5ks are a wonderful goal. Almost all 5ks around here involve walkers. A few of them have a separate start for walkers, but I think you don't need to worry about that. If you want a local one, there's the St. Patty's day Ras na hEireann here in Davis Sq. Of course, it might still be cold enough to snow, so you could wait till one later in the spring.

In any case, bravo for setting goals!
